Recently, members of the Northmen Roofing team traveled to New Lexington, Ohio to participate in Ludowici’s Factory Installation Training program. While the training itself provided valuable technical education, what left the greatest impression was the opportunity to witness firsthand the craftsmanship, history, and culture behind one of the world’s most respected clay tile manufacturers.

In many ways, Ludowici represents a different era of construction. Their products are not commodities manufactured solely for efficiency or cost. They are architectural materials designed to endure for generations. Each tile reflects a level of craftsmanship that is increasingly rare in today’s construction industry, where speed and mass production often take precedence over permanence and character.

Walking through the factory, it became clear that every clay roof tile tells a story. From hand processing and color matching to specialized finishing techniques, the manufacturing process retains a distinctly artisan character. Subtle variations in texture and appearance are not defects—they are evidence of the craftsmanship that makes each installation unique.
